I have a chrome grill in my meadow green 51 but it ain't perfect. It has a small rust spot on it. I have another grill in great shape and was thinking of painting it the cream color so i was hoping someone could tell me the color name and code.I think i payed about 800 to have my other chrome grill rechromed. Plus i would have to take it apart and wait afew months to get it back.
I don't claim to be an expert on colors or what color fits what year. I think Ford used the same grill color cream for quite a few years. After a bit of looking and some research I painted the grill on my '56 with some Wimbledon white that I had left over from painting my '73. The dear wife, who has a good eye for color, said it was a near perfect match to the polished paint on the back side of the grill. IMO, it looks good against the Meadow Green.
In the picture the white shows bleached out a bit. Wimbledon white is a pretty standard Ford color, used quite a few years.
The ivory should be Wimbledon White. For early 51s, the grille was painted Argent Silver.
THANKS ILYA' I was going by the toy truck i bought it has a cream colored grill. The strips on my mustang are wimberly white and it don't look cream colored to me. So what would be the best way to go ? SILVER OR WHITE !!!!!!
Hmmm... while I was reading the responses to this post, another color name popped into my head. It was Sungate Ivory. This was a stock color used by Ford. It may be closer to the ivory used on the grilles. Take a look for yourself, 1952 Ford Sungate Ivory paint
YEP THATS IT. The man i want to sell the truck to has a hardware store [were my bother works] and thats the colors he has on his sighs/hats/shirts. The truck would look great with TATUMS HARDWARE painted on the doors in the grill color. THANKS
1953 and 54 grilles were painted Sungate Ivory. The grilles of 55 and 56 trucks were Snowshoe White. I think Wimbledon white came later, but it is very close in color to Snowshoe White. I don't know wht years they used Sungate Ivory in the pre-53 trucks...

Wimbledon White introduced in 1964 (color code M), it's an off white. 1961/63: Corinthian White was the only white available for trucks.
Be aware that the idiots at FoMoCo used the same M color code for Corinthian White as they did for Wimbledon White.
1964: FoMoCo also introduced Pure White (color code C) which is a bright white.
Sungate Ivory not listed 1951/56 in the 1948/56 truck catalog.
Snowshoe White (color code E) listed only for 1955, but...
FoMoCo did not list painted grille/bumper colors in parts catalogs.
1961/66: Grilles and bumpers were painted Colonial White, which is a bright white. Listed as color code E for 1956/59 Fords in the 1949/59 Ford Passenger Car Parts Catalog.
Lincoln & Mercury may/may not use the same codes. I don't have a L/M parts catalog until 1965, so I cannot verify.
