Hi everyone first i want to thank everyone for the help on that 2002 explorer it turned out the frame was gone had to scrap it (lost money on that one ) but i picked up a 2002 explorer eddie bourer for $500.00 they stated it needed a fuel pump so i got the fuel pump and it worked and replaced all the brakes but now that it is running i see that the 4 wheel low light is on and it won't come out of the 4 wheel low does this mean the transfer case is jamed or what is wrong and how do i get it out of 4 wheel low ? i still need to do some work on it but right now it is the 4 wheel drive issue i can't figure out thanks in advance for you help
Also as a side note the butten or whatever it is that let's you know the key is still in the truck is keep on sounding after the door is closed and the dash keeps saying the door is ajar any thoughts on that where that might be so i can fix it thanks
I would remove the transfer case motor and set on a block under the truck. Leave it plugged in and turn the **** from 4 x 4 to 2 x 4 ... If nothing happens, measure the voltage on the harness and see if you have power, or the motor is bad........ With the motor off, you can manually turn the rod and put the transfer case back into 2 x 4.
-------------
The door switch tells the sound to stop and tells the light the door is closed.. Spray the switch with WD 40 and slam the door a few times......... make sure the wires are not cut at the door opening / hinge point......... if all else fails, pull the switch and check.......... assume the fuse is OK since you have the light and dinger.
ok the switch for the 4 wheel drive is a button not a flip switch so just keep pushing the button? and i will try the trick with the door thing thanks for the help
the transfer case motor is obviously stuck in 4 x 4 LO....... your trying to figure out if it is "stuck", "motor failed", or "no elect power" .......... pull the motor and run your test with the 4 x 4 button.
Update when i went to back up the truck it came out of 4 wheel low and put it into auto 4 wheel i guess it was stuck but i will keep an eye on it and thanks for all the help
a lot of these trucks ( and F150s) prefer to be in neutral with the drive shaft unloaded, and maybe even rolling slightly when you engage or disengage the 4 x 4... makes things move easier inside. If it does it again, put in neutral, foot off brake and as it rolls, then engage.
