Transmission interchange
I have a 2003 mountaineer 4.0 awd, and recently the tranny went out. I have since located a 2004 ranger 4.0 4x4 that I can pull the transmission from if it will work. Has anyone done a swap like this or know if I can use a 5r55e in place of a 5r55s?

No, you cannot. The two transmissions are both electronically controlled. The computer in your truck now won't work with a 5R55E. If you swap the computers also, you'll end up with a load of wiring changes, if you can even make it work.

Thanks, that's what I was afraid of. I've been looking everywhere I can think of for a cheap used tranny, but these things are impossible to find for a decent price. Anyway its slipping badly between 1,2 and 3,4. From what I've read it'll need a rebuild or replacement.
