im mid way through installing a set on my 1978 f-150 4x4 400 truck. i see that my fender aprons will need trimming and the brake lines from the master cylinder to the proportioning valve will need to be re-routed/rebuilt. my big concern right now is steering shaft clearance. it looks like its gonna be awfully close. if anyone has some pictures it would be much appreciated! some tips wouldnt hurt either.
I don't have any pics but years ago I ran them, kinda surprised they are even still made but I never had any problem with them other than they rusted out quickly. I must have went through 6 sets of them before I went big block.
I recently did this with my 76 F150 4x4 with a set of fender exit Hedman Hustlers on a big block but the front clip was off my truck for the restoration. Here's the best I can help you with, hope it helps.
I had to trim my right side inner fender to fit the headers, the left side (drivers side) did not require to be trimmed. The steering shaft is tight but fits fine, no issues.
You have to watch where the headers line up over the frame and that your engine is setting in the right spot (high enough). Yours should be unless you have changed motor mounts in the past. I am using solid motor mounts (which I had to modify), the old ones (after market for the 460) sat my engine to low and the headers would not fit over the frame until I raised the engine. Again, I hope this is not your situation.
If you have a real torque'ee engine you may wish to consider solids as a option. But there will be fab work.
I had my local hydraulic shop take my Brake lines from the MC to the PV and make them a flexible steel line to I could run them back towards the firewall and down. You will need to measure this length...Works Great!
Headers before front clip is put back on...(Left and Right side)
