Hi guys. Thinking about picking up a 2004 f150 in good shape aside from its motor. PO added too much oil and blew the engine.
What's the approx cost for a new 8-cyl for these (labor and parts). I know there is probably a broad range of available engines, but I'm looking for something good, not great. Or at least not priced like it's great.
ALSO: is there any shot the motor can be salvaged? In other words, is adding too much oil a sure fire engine killer or might there be a less invasive fix. Tough to know, I'm sure
The body and trans have 92k on them. Body looks great.
I've never heard of an engine blowing due to too much oil. The 5.4 takes 7 qt at oil change time.
Me either, unless he poured the oil in the cylinders and hydrauliced the engine.
The only other way I could think of is he filled it with too much oil, blew a seal and ran it until all the oil ran out.
