Rislone Engine Treatment

Has anyone ever used this stuff? A buddy of mine (he is a mechanic) recommended this stuff or marvel mystery oil. He told me to add a quart when i do an oil change in place of a quart of oil. I researched it on google and it seems to be a good thing so I put it in today with my oil change. I was just wonderin if anyone has ever used this? and if it helps out any. thanks in advance

I wouldnt add any sort of oil additive.. unless the motor was in bad shape.

I used to use this stuff in the 1970's. It seemed to make cars crank easier in the winter.

I believe that, like WD-40, it is a solvent mixed with light machine oil. Why do you think you needed it? Modern oils have comprehensive additive packages that contain all the ingredients an engine is likely to need. Cars routinely go hundreds of thousands of miles on regular motor oil; isn't that far enough?

How would motor oil cause an engine to chug?....I looked up Rislone and it is mostly naphtha (lighter fluid) with some light lubricating oil. If you work the engine really hard, I would be worried that you'd wash the oil out of the bearings and gall them. If you had a gunked up engine like a 1960's engine that was run on non-detergent oil, it *might* clean out some of the gunk. But I'd be afraid to run the stuff in a modern engine.

Like I said, I used it in the 70's...but I used a *lot* of miracle additives trying to solve various car problems. In retrospect, none of them worked except maybe Gumout in the fuel when I had gunked up carburetors.
