2002 Explorer

I have a few problems with my explorer. I was just wondering if there's any way I can fix them on my own instead of paying a mechanic. I'll take all the help I can get.

1. back passenger window wont roll down
2. Gas gauge fluctuates can't get an accurate reading on it
3. service engine light comes on for a couple days, then goes off
4. shifts hard if i go over 65mph and then slow back down

please help

Depending on your skill set and available tools, any of these are potentially things you can fix. There's really no way for us to tell you if you can though without knowing you and your abilities.

1. Could be a wiring issue or could be a mechanical issue. Might require a switch, fixing a broken wire, or replacing/rebuilding a window regulator. Do you have experience in any or all of these areas? Do you have a multimeter? Do you know how to remove a door panel?

2. Could be an issue within the instrument cluster or could be a fuel pump assembly issue.

3. Do you have access to a scan tool to read the diagnostic code or codes? Codes will be stored, the reading does not need to occur while the light is on. Most auto parts stores will pull diagnostic codes at no charge if you don't have a scan tool. Getting the store to provide the exact diagnostic codes though can sometimes be challenging.

4. This might just be a fluid level issue, maybe the fluid and filter need to be changed, or maybe the shift solenoids, locking torque converter, or servo bores are the problem. What's your comfort level with transmission service?

The window randomly started working. I think it might have been a lose wire, but it's working.

Two I'm trying to flush the fuel to see if that works

I got the the codes, he said he can fix it but the light will come right back on since it reflects what's going on with the fuel gauge.

I don't know that flushing the fuel will do anything unless you suspect there is a lot of moisture or something in the fuel. Or are you using Techron fuel system cleaner which is known to remedy GM fuel gauge issues for some period of time?

Well, if the light will continue to come back on, someone isn't actually "fixing" the issue....
