Hey, what a great Forum. I need help regarding codes that came up when I had my Explorer in at the dealer due to a check engine light.
1995 Explorer XLT
4.0L
121,000 miles
The codes they gave me were:
P1824
B1352
B1398
They indicated that one could be causing the others. Does anyone know what these codes are and what the best way to go about figuring out if one or all are a problem?
Go to Autozone. They have troubleshooting computers and can tell you exactly what each code is and what to do to fix it (plus sell you the parts). I took my 93 Taurus SHO there and they used the computer and I had 2 trouble codes but it was only one problem.
I went to 2 AZ's and neither one could get it to read. They both said something like connection failed. I took it to a garage I've gone to and their the ones who came up with the codes I included in my post. They also told me one could be causing the others. My driver side master window controls operate all windows, but none of them (passenger or both back windows)operates from those switches. May be part of the issue. I don't know. Thanks for your input.
I have a stupid question: Does your vehicle have a "window lock" switch by the regular window switches on the driver's door? I have a neighbor that had that problem and just didn't know about it.
As for autozone, I don't know what to tell you about that. Have you tried calling them with those codes for your vehicle? I searched the internet for a while looking for these and I can't find them. Everything I saw had a "P" in front of it and nothing you had matched the database. I don't know where else to steer you except calling autozone back or calling your local Ford dealer and see if they can help (usually really nice because they think they are gonna sell you something to fix it....just let them believe it).
Just pull up www.hotbot.com and type in "ford trouble codes". Click on the very first one and that is where this link is. I looked at about 20 more and this was the most informative.
I can try to look up the codes on a brand new snapon scan tool, but i need the 2nd, 5th, 8th and 10th digits of the vin. Also is it an auto or manual, with or without AC?
All a body code is is a code for something that does not involve the powertrain, abs or emissions. So the body codes could have something to do with the power windows.
Skippy: It does have a "child lockout" switch which I think may be the problem. I will probably try replacing that first. Thanks for the link information!
71mustang: 2,5,8,10 digit of vin: I think you're messing with me here cause it spells ****. Automatic w/AC.
For all I know the garage I took it to made up the codes. They also wrote P0000 and wrote no code found, then listed the other codes.
As far as issues when driving, the truck seems to have a pause between 38-45 mph. There is occasionally a clunk sound when I left off the gas. Doesn't shift hard, but seems to hestitate slightly (sometimes) below 45 mph. There is also a rythmic (light) thump thump thump at lower speeds almost as if you are going over small smooth bumps in the road. This only seems to happen when driving within a very narrow speed range.
The clunk sound might be a U-joint going bad. I have had that same noise and problem with U-joint. It also sounds like a possible carrier bearing. My 1994 F-150 4X4 had the same problem 2 years ago. It did it during a certaing mph range and didn't have problems besides then. It did go out on a 1100 mile trip exactly halfway through. Didn't break driveshaft or anything, but scared the crap out of me. Made it home, put a new one in and never had a problem again.
Kind of sounds like you have nickel and dime stuff here and there going wrong. Once you fix all of them, you should have a really sound truck. You've got a good truck to start with anyway because it's a FORD!!
