Chet; Im interested in your findings if you go this route, let us know how you like them. I have a very old (late 70's early 80's) set of KYB's that still felt good so I reinstalled them.

I'll definitely leave ya some feedback. I'm running KYB Gas Adjust on the back and they are a HUGE improvement over the 40 year old junkers they replaced.
I think the old shocks were a single stage oil shock. Problem is the newer heavy duty shocks available are too hard on the bracket ends and pound them making the holes widen and oval out. A while back Eaton spring works was selling single stage shocks for vintage vehicles but I don't know if they are stlll available.

Im willing to give them a try for science. I made new front brackets and UHMW bushings
OK I just did a test ride to Harbor Freight and back, I'm very happy with the ride, It rides just as nice as my 2005 Excursion (sort of proud to own the first and last leaf spring 4x4 trucks Ford ever made )
Time to move on to the the next problem: Replacing or rebuilding the rear (9 leaf) springs.
Those bushings look great, no distortion. My rubber ones are already mushing after just three years and about 19000 miles. I am amazed at how well these trucks drive with new components up-front. Did you start with over-sized round stock and turn down the center sections for the bushings? I turned some for a bushing in my steering column.

Yes exactly, bought a 24" piece from Innerstate Plastics. I think its Regrined. On a side note I took the picture above with my new Samsung Galaxy S7 phone and the Camara has a distortion bug that a lot of people are complaining about: If you look at the left shackle it looks slightly curved but its actually straight I checked it with a straight edge.
Anyways, I sized each bushing to fit so I could press them in by hand.
