Well, I found a guy in Flordia by the name of Bells CB radios. I can get a Cobra 29 WX NT ST radio built on a factory refurbished unit by him with upgrades using a RFX8 powerband and a RX replacement with quality parts to reduce noise and interference. Total cost for the radio and the upgrades with s&h would put me right at $271. The Cobra 29 XL would be a good $10 more. Only difference I see between the two radios is the XL has a Delta **** and talkback along with a few more weather stations and a weather search feature. I honestly don't think its worth the extra money for a delta **** let alone for a digital search feature nor the couple extra channels for weather.
Still trying to decide because that will put me close to $400 for the radio by time I get the antenna cause its almost $300 for just the radio.

Well being new to this I have found out enough from reading that I now know how to get my cost down but get better performance.

So for thoses following or might find this in the future for their own truck, a Cobra 29 WX NT ST radio will fit just fine to the left of the ash tray under the dash directly below the cubby pocket to the right of the column.

Now as far as ugprades goes, I'm looking at a RX upgrade on the receiver to reduce noise and make it more sensitive, I'm looking at a aftermarket Echo board installation as well as a talk back function installation. I am also looking at a tune on the radio to set the dead key at 2 watts for use with a KL 203P mini amp. Ideal is 2 watts dead key to obtain a 125 to 130 watt output. Amp can be had for under $80 which makes it a better deal than the RFX85 upgrade that brings wattage to 15 amps dead key and 75 amps peak.

that's where I mounted my oil/temp/volt meters.
I like the fact I can look down and see them all but they are out of the way at the same time

Yep the template I made I will have to angle the radio to clear my cruise control module mounted under the dash. But this is the only place I can mount the radio and keep it out of the way.

I just wish Capital One would hurry up and send my card as I finally was able to find a place to give me a card since Matco screwed me and didn't report my $2500 service cart purchase. Anyways I want to put this on plastic as I am buying parts for my Holley 4000 rebuild.
