Did F100s ship with phenolic carb spacers to keep the fuel from boiling? Getting ready to install a rebuilt carb and this one is looking a little rough. Starting to soak up fuel, not flat, bulge. Could fill it in with epoxy and sand it flat again suppose.

Everybody has 4 barrel spacers. Two barrel not so much. Is there a Ford or Autolite part number for these. Is this even the right one? There are some new ones on eBay. Or I could get busy with my Buck knife and a block of maple.

Here's a Holley part # 17-72 for 70! bucks, plus shipping. I think they're smoking their socks. I know Holley dang near equals Ford when it comes to some carb stuff, but where are all the Autolite carb spacers, or FoMoCo spacers, etc.

I was recently researching too but had no luck for a reasonable price. So I am interested to find one too. Doesn't matter if 1/2" or 1" thick.

not sure if the shape does matter.

The one that's been installed forever is 1/2" thick. Using two gaskets doesn't leave many threads for the carb flange nuts. Suppose I could install longer studs in the manifold, but trying hard not to make a production out of this. Ain't workin' out too good, ha ha.

Here's one listed for a Holley from Jegs part # 519-5080 1/2" thick, for 29 bones.

Well, cutting up old dressers and making spacers must be profitable but not by me. Sanding this one down on a flat surface, and going to call it good. It's probably better stuff than anything available today.

One thing I've never thought about is have never used any kind of sealer on carb gaskets. How about you guys? Maybe a light coat of vaseline or somesuch so they don't stick? But am going to be real particular here, NO vacuum leaks allowed. Gotta be perfect, and stay that way.

T9, I've never used any kind sealant on carb mounting. Just having new gaskets and surfaces flat and true should do it. S paper, full sheet, or what you choose laid out on a true flat surface, rub part back and forth a couple times and look see if high/low spots show. Even check the carb surface too.

Yep, large piece of plate glass and 100 grit garnet paper. Close enough for what I'm doing. It will be flat when I'm done. I think maybe there was some kind of static carb leak and it was soaking the spacer with fuel and may have had some vacuum leakage as a result.

I did use some permatex gasket maker (make sure it is petroleum safe) when I put my spacer onto the manifold. I didn't use it from the spacer to the carb. My spacer wasn't the flattest, but with some sanding it did flatten out. I ended up using 1 gasket below the spacer and 2 above to make sure none of the high points weren't causing vacuum leaks
