I just purchased an 04 f-250 Lariat. It only has 103k miles. first time diesel owner. When I drive it, it shifts smooth as ever. BUT, when I need that extra power to downshift, nothing happens. Nothing raddles, it stays cool when it warms up. Again, normal driving behavior its fine, until it needs to downshift. Any input would be nice. I have two referred mechanics, but id like to get a little more info before I take it in.
I just purchased the truck a month ago, carfax said its been under warranty and was taken To the dealer ship for oil changes ECT. Only thing major was a tune up at 80k, now it says nothing about any trans service done.
I drove it around last night, and it will still shift smooth, through all 5 gears. However, like last night, I was going about 45mph. I punched it and it will downshift to one gear, and hold a rev at 2.8 to 3k, highway same story, so it's consistent. it needs a filter change most likely, but I don't understand this....
My 1st suggestion is that when buying a used vehicle is to change all filters and fluids with OEM products. That way you have a starting point for the whole platform.

A tune up? What would be done to a 6.0L for a tune up?

So it downshifted from overdrive to direct drive. If it downshifts again it will be in third gear. Overdrive is 0.71:1, direct is 1:1, and third is 1.54:1.
If it downshifts to third gear the engine RPM will go up by 54%. ((1.54-1)/1) So the 2.8K RPM will jump to 4300 RPM. That's above the engine's red line. So the computer isn't going to allow this to happen.
That's why you're not getting another downshift, it will break the engine. There is nothing wrong here.
Ok. This makes more sense now. But what would be the direct solution? my brothers mechanic told me to bring it down and be will run the transmission code to see if itneeds to be reset? I'll repost and let y'all know the outcome. I appreciate all the help guys!
"Mark Kovalsky" the user that posted above you is someone to listed
very close to when it comes to the transmission in this truck. The 5R110W
was one of his major projects as I understand it. Mark is the best when it comes
to info about this trans.
You have not answered the question about having a LED lamp in the high mount
break light. The info I have on them say it caused odd behavior or the lock/unlock
of the torque-converter.
Mark can you verify this ir is it just a urban myth?
Well, I took my truck to the shop he plugged in his computer and he saw nothing. He's having me take it to a specialist!! I'll know in a couple days. He hoped it was the torque converter or sensor but the specialist will know. Thanks for the help everyone!

Good luck with this. You'll need it.
If you really are just looking for a way to throw away your money send it to me. I can put it to a better use than what you're using it for. If you could follow the very basic math I showed you above you'd understand there is nothing wrong with this truck. You just have unreasonable expectations.

I've heard it, too. I have never verified it, nor provide it wrong.
[QUOTE=Yahiko;16197590]Any LEDs in the high mount third brake light?
New member here and I certainly do NOT want to hijack a thread but I have LEDs in third brake, as well as brake/tail/reverse lights too. Are there certain problems or issues that arise in the 6.0 because of LEDs?
Read the post from Mark Kovalsky indicating has not been proven but neither disproved either. Any info appreciated.
