Can anyone tell me:
which direction the pilot bearing goes
are the pressure plate bolts supposed to be threaded all the way
(PO used grade 5 bolts that were threaded all the way and I had one snap before 35lbs torque)
The last time I messed with pressure plate bolts, I'm fairly certain they were grade 8 and were not threaded all the way up. That grade 5 bolt should not have broke at 35 lbs. Use new nuts and bolts whenever possible. Apply locktite (it will secure the bolt and keep it from rusting), except when using steel bots into alum.-then use anti-seize.
Just like Gary said those were the wrong bolts. Just replace the bolts 1 at a time with grade 8 bolts and grade 8 lock washers. Finding the original style bolts will not be too easy.
NS70250, I just looked in the Chiltons manual and it says to torque the pressure plate bolts to 15 - 20 lbs. So those bolts must be a grade 8. The bellhousing to engine bolts are torqued to 40-50lbs. I don't know where you got 35lbs.
