I've got this loud higher pitched scraping/rattling/clanking noise while moving. Neutral or drive makes no difference. I have a problem with my coast clutch not working and will be having the tranny shop (warranty) take a look at what's going on. Could this sound be from that? I hope it's noticeable on the video. I need to do my swaybar link bushings, but it's not a suspension clunk it's definitely a rotating noise.
Could be the hub assembly, as has been said. It could also be a brake backing plate that got slightly bent and is touching a rotor. Also, it kinda sounds a little like what I was hearing before a discovered a REALLY bad u-joint, with a shattered cap, in my front driveshaft. It would make an awful high pitched squeak/screech every couple of rotations.
I'll check the hub and shaft. I've done hubs on my ranger and it was a different sound but who knows? It sounds like a piece of something just bouncing inside a housing. Thanks guys.
When my hubs went bad the sound was greatest in long turns where there was lots of off-axis force.
That's why I don't think its a hub. The noise is constant, turning or not, throttle on or off, in gear or not. It also has a really lightweight clanking noise. It's nothing solid.
My deal was most audible at slow speed. You can virtually weld the stub to the inner bearing on the hub at speed. Do a slow roll with someone else driving on a down slope coasting with engine off and walk beside it. If you have a good ear, you'll get close.
These trucks are just too loud to sit in the drivers seat and try to pin point a problem.
Steep hill and good ears.
You'll at least be able to tell which side, front or back.
Worth a shot.

(If you have manual hubs, unlock em for the test when you get close. Then lock em) Might be a locking hub problem if so equipped). (You can do one side at a time if that helps)
