As long as RPM is over 100, the PCM will send a fuel delivery command signal to the IDM. At warm idle, you should be seeing an IPR duty cycle of roughly 8-10% with the ICP around 500 PSI. I'd like to see a longer log of data with a wide open throttle run, under load. If you do that, include ICP voltage as well as PSI. Did you have a P1211 DTC by chance?
Here is a longer verson. I'm blocked in the driveway so I can't get it out under load. The p1121 or whatever is stored in the module with some kind of code on injector #3. I tried the cold water thing, no effect.
Thanks
I'm gonna do the cody test (and probably pull the valve covers) when I get a chance and check everything out. I have a sneaky suspicion that I may have not seated injector #1 or #3 correctly (both are throwing codes).
Thanks for the help!!!
I was able to get the truck out under load (a lot). Had me and my dad, a 3 wheeler in the bed and a dump trailer with a 6ft bush hog in the back (11000ish lbs) up a 5% hill - truck felt crazy underpowered, i had to set my chip to the 70hp setting. I couldn't get a video but i was able to get the .fsl file of the run. https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B4K...ew?usp=sharing Hopefully that works
Random question: is it worth my time and money to re-do the gp's while I'm there? I bought the truck as a flipper/education for my real future truck (the one I was gonna keep for as long as possible) but as I dumped 2 grand into it in injectors I said I was gonna keep this one (the ticket red grew on me). When I did the gps I used Napa ones, and there are stories of them swelling. Should I re do them while I'm under there, or cross my fingers and deal with them later?
I would change them, they only cost $10 each and the downside scares me. I opened mine up just to see what the PO put in there when he had them replaced and I got lucky he used OEM.
Get them out, if they swell, it can mean the heads have to come off. Riff Raff has them for under $11 plus shipping. You might be able to get the local Ford dealer to match.
UPDATE:
Pulled the covers, I did not find any super loose injectors, # 2 and #4 needed to be tightened down a hair with the torque wrench (10 ft lbs), so I don't know how sensitive the injectors are?
Is it ok to run without valve covers or turbo for an extended period of time? I wanted to put it in high idle and warm it up, maybe the the oil will start leaking a little quicker...
Running cody test after I finish typing this.
Gonna do glow plugs so I will probably have it apart for the rest of today and tomorrow.
Let me know what I should do.
As long as you make sure nothing can get sucked into your open intake as it sits there then I can't see a problem. A lot of guys like to "hot torque" their injectors once the engine is up to temp.
You should have no problems with the open valve covers either. If your injectors are working correctly then all the oil is squirted back towards the engine.
When you say you torqued to 10 ft lbs, were you using a foot pound torque wrench? Torque wrenches aren't very accurate towards the extreme ends of their scale. A proper in lbs wrench is really what is needed to do this properly. If you over torque the bolts it can lead to a problem.....
I torqued down with both. I have a 1/4 inch torque wrench and it is in Inch lbs (torqued to 120) then I went back over them with my 3/8 inch torque wrench, it is in foot lbs (10 ft lbs). They both clicked pretty close to each other.
Ok cool, just wanted to check. Some people don't know there can be big differences in accuracy on the extreme limits of a torque wrench. Sounds like you have it covered though!
