I have a 2000 F250, 300k. Starts beautifully when cold, takes 10 seconds of cranking when at Operating Temperature. Did the injectors and plugs in September, kept doing it and now that it's summer it's getting harder and harder to start. Just replaced the ipr, still doing it. Gonna do an overdue oil change tonight or tomorrow, I'm hopeing that will improve it. I can understand 3 or 4 sec of cranking, but not 10. Truck hads no drivability issues whatsoever. Will an ICP fix it? Change to a heavy-duty 20w-50? (Last oil change was delo 15w-40) The code reader that I have is really basic, and only shows me RPM and map.
Any suggestions are appreciated.
You're going to want to watch ICP voltage, ICP PSI and IPR duty cycle while cranking at operating temperature. Sounds like you'll need a better scan tool to do that. If you have an Android device, you can get a bluetooth OBD-II adapter and install Torque Pro ($6.00) or with WinD'ohs, you can use ForScan (free).
I will buy this one and it should be here tomorrow. says it works with windows and my pc is bluetooth enabled. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B011NSX27A/ref=cm_sw_r_sms_awd_LVxbxbB76Y6EE
I did the change, drove it a few miles and am seeing a slight improvement, could be better but it seems to work now. Gonna update you guys on the exact numbers im getting once the Bluetooth scanner comes in.
Perfect, I just put 16 qts of delo in. I'll try rotella next time around. Guess I've always used delo cause you could buy 3 gallons of it at Costco for $40, cheapest oil changes anywhere
Your IPR duty cycle is climbing way too high for the ICP PSI while cranking. You have one or more of: a bad IPR, a large hydraulic leak, or an HPOP on its way out. Since it's a problem more when hot, I'd lean toward a hydraulic leak first. Injector o-rings are definitely a possibility. I would check one thing first though; it could also be a weak IPR solenoid coil. Get it up to operating temp and pour a big glass of ice water over the IPR coil and see if starting improves.
Is my starting rpms high enough? They don't seem high. What is a good ipr duty cycle? (Ipr is new by the way) what is a good icp reading? I've seen conflicting stuff.
