This is an old picture, but this was a great spot to mount mine, I can reach it when I'm sitting at a stoplight, and just hang the mike on the CB, or I could mount the mike on the dash if I wanted to.
A guy named ponykilr made a CB mount for his '96 F-350 that put it on the ceiling between the sun visors. He bent up some sheet metal into a bracket that was sandwiched between the inner mounts for the sun visors and the ceiling, and then had tabs that came down for the radio. He had a really nice write up about it too. You can search and probably find it, but he hasn't been very active on here lately and all of the pictures are gone from most of his posts, so the thread isn't very helpful anymore.
Ive personally thought of mounting under the dash, but I cant cause if I have a third passenger in my truck in the middle theres not much leg room without it and it would be hit. I thought of mounting it on the ceiling of the cab but cant bring myself to do that.
I did see some people get a smallish CB and mount it in the glove pocket on the right side of the column. I cant do this as I have dealer A/C and my A/C controls are mounted there already.
I thought about installing it under the dash, but I run a full-sized CB and it won't fit too many places. Also, this is gonna be a dog hunting rig for me and my wife, so it would be in the way of our guns when we're getting in and out of the truck (which is constant while running dogs).
I think for now, I'm going to be trying to figure out how to secure it to the top of the dash. I can't bring myself to drill more holes in the roof.
Keep sending the pics though. I like ideas. I did get my VHF radio installed though.
I'm having a "similar problem", inasmuch as I'm trying to decide where to mount my "old school" Yaesu FT-2700RH ham/MARS radio in my "new to me" 1986 XLT Lariat, where it's NOT in the way & not too "attractive" to thieves. = About 6 months ago, my nearly brand new JVC stereo was stolen out of my 300SDL while I was at a movie.
(I'm also trying to figure out where to put 2 big cup holders for 32 ounce drink cups. - I'm currently considering a "homebrew mount" on the front side of the bench seat.)
BryanF350, I never thought of that, that would be the ideal place especially if you don't need to reach the CB to change the channel. I also seem to recall seeing longer mic wire extensions so you can bring it up to the front.
I know I personally would like to have one, some times its fun just listening to the crap said on channel, but I also cant mount it under the dash on mine as I sometimes have a third person riding with me and their legs are already near my ashtray as it is under the dash. I wouldn't put it ontop of my dash as that's just advertising for a break in. I thought of up on the cab ceiling but I don't like the thought of drilling holes in the cab ceiling for a cb.
But behind the seat that would be the way to do it, then just mount a switch under the dash to activate and deactivate it and you can keep the volume **** set on.
