The Truspeed recalibrator must tap into the speed sender wire which feeds into the ABS module. The problem: the ABS module is under the driverside battery (diesel), and the wire harness where it lives has zero slack in it to even begin to find this wire. Not to mention i can hardly get my hand in there! Does anyone know where that speed sender wire comes from originally? the ranny? t-case? dif? Any help will be greatly appreciated. Has anyone else installed this Truspeed thing and have a solution to help out? Thanks a million to everyone.
..I wonder how easy the *** speed calibrator is to install....
I spliced into mine per the instructions on the left side. I'm a gasser ( V-10 ) so the second battery is not a problem. I did remove the fuel evap. cannister and the complete air cleaner housing. It is a really tight fit. I split my harness open about 18 inches. Crimped and soldered the wires. Covered all the splices in heat shrink, then re-assembled the harness. It is a PITA. You could remove the wheel/tire, then remove the inner fender well liner. It is really easy, looks a lot more difficult than it really is. Took my inner fender liners out when I added my Borla headers... I believe the left hand liner has four screws that are installed in the fender right on the edge, Three 8mm bolts that go into support brackets, and two of the plastic christmas tree fasteners on the lower aft end.
Hey i got it all installed - but its not working. I installed just like the instructions said, spliced and soldered all that good stuff, and i know i got the right wire becase i have no speedo. i have tried resetting the thing by turning it counter clockwise 15 times the back to no avail. Any ideas? i will try to call their "techline" tomarrow
Hmmmm.....neither channel works ? Mine worked with no problems. But the speed read really low at first. I was doing 50 and the speedo read 20. I had to do some major turning just to get in the ball park. Try turning the adjustment to increase the speed. Sorry don't remember id increase in clockwise or counter-clockwise. If that does not do it I would re-solder my connections, yea I know PITA.
It is a grey wire with a black stripe. I got mine installed... found a much easier way to do it than instructed. With these diesels its not like the directions say about pulling the fender well. Instead of doing that just remove the battery and air intake box to reach the fender.. not too hard, a few bolts below the battery. The wire harness that contains the speed wire runs along side the fender, and is easily accesed once the tray is removed. You can open the harness cover and there you will see a group of about 20 wires. The speed one is right in there. Solder the yellow one to the part of the wire that goes to the rear diff, and solder the green wire to the end running to the ABS module. Also, you will certainly need to fine tune the setting their chart was way off for my truck. A handheld GPS really pays off! best of luck- hope this helps, if you have any questions post them.. that deal can be frustrating lol
I just got it done and calibrated it to my gps. It is with in .2 at 65 mph and 55 mph. I dont know why i waited so long to do it, this thing is awesome. My shift points changed for the better also. I cut into the wire loom behind the battery, clean install. I also installed a 7 tap ign hot fuse block for accy`s today. Thanks for all the help.
