First some answers from you, then some answers from us. Is the alternator new? Did it come with instructions? What brand is the alternator? Serpentine or v-belt? What style alternator are you replacing? How may terminals on the old and the new alternator?
Typically, there is a large B+ terminal with a heavy wire going back to the B+ side of the fender mounted starter relay. One wire from the alternator would go to a dash cluster that lights indicating no charge. Another wire going to the alternator is called an exciter wire to get the charging action started. 136 amp sounds like a Jeep/Dodge alternator. Give us a little more information to work with.
The 136 amp alternator has 1 big wire that splits into 2 big wires also the alternater has two small wires that come out of the back I think they are field wires I don't know how to send a picure to show you the back of the alternate the alternate has a part number that is ford 13387 I took the alternater to auto zone they said it was a ford alternater.
If you google FORD ALTERNATOR, there are sites to enable you to identify which generation alternator you have and also wiring schematics on how to connect it. Hope this hint helps.
