The windshield wipers on my 1978 F-250 went on the fritz all of a sudden. I am not sure if it is the wiring or the motor. Has anyone in the forum had to repair their wipers? What is the proper procedure? Do I check wiring first, or motor? Also, is the wiper mechanism connected to the fuse panel? Should I try to replace fuses first? Any help is greatly appreciated. Would like to avoid having to pay $500 at the repair shop....thanks!!!!
Fuses are always a good place to start. Busted fuse, no electrical pixies, no wipers. Did they just quit working, or are they intermittent? You really only need the one wire from the switch to run the wipers. I believe the wire is orange.
Thanks for sending this. It is a big help. One question for you. Looking at that chart, it looks like the Windshield Wiper is on the #2 fuse.... Is that correct? It is hard because the chart says W/S Wiper Illumination. Not sure if the #2 fuse is for illumination of the actual wiper itself. Let me know if you have any insight on that...thanks again.
mine stopped working a while back. It was the switch that was bad. The washer motor was the only thing which had power. I ended up making my own switch.

You are correct. Hot wire for wipers is orange. My wipers didn't work at all. Started digging around and found the orange wire had been cut and stripped back an inch. Found a factory connector (yellow plug) that had 12v with key on and it works.
