I recently bought a 1995 2wd F350 CC dually, and I'm having trouble with rebuilding my oil cooler. Didn't have much trouble removing it, I took the fender liner out and it made it a breeze to get to the front housing bolts. I was thinking that this job wasn't going to be as bad as I thought, until I got the cooler apart. Both housings are pitted pretty badly where the coolant Orings seat, and no amount of cleaning/polishing with emery cloth is going to remove the pitting. Has anybody had to deal with this type of problem, and how did you go about fixing it? I got my Orings and gaskets from Diesel O rings, and they have the housings, but I can't afford what they want for them and I can't find them anywhere else. Has anyone tried putting gasket sealer in the housing where the coolant Oring seats before assembling the cooler? Any ideas on how well that might work?
Yeah, that doesn't look real good. The only thing I would know to try would be fill the pits with JB Weld and sand it smooth. No guarantee on anything you do to it that it won't leak, but I know where you're at on not being able to afford new ones.
