2006 F250 super coming home other night few blocks from house transmission quit shifting, tow lite came on blinking after stopping in front of house did not want to into gear but finally did but engine light did also, got it to Ford Motor, they said transmission is full of shavings can't be fixed, will cost $5,200.00 for new transmission, sounds high, its a 5 SPD automatic, 5R 110w high tork, goes behind a 6.0 diesel engine, anyone have a better suggestions?
Good lower mileage used one from a reputable yard with a 30 day warranty. Just make sure its the Diesel version and not the gasser. Have you shopped around to source a good trans rebuild shop for a second opinion? Id have some one tear into it to see if its beyond rebuilding. By that I mean many of the hard parts are bad or the case is bad. If all it needs is frictions, discs a seal kit, torque converter and any critical updates you could get it rebuilt a little cheaper? Make sure the trans fluid cooling loop is well flushed. Just how much cheaper a reman will be is the Q. Can you pull it and replace it? $$$ saved here if you're a seasoned wrench. If its only a thousand less for a reman Id say your better off with new unit with a 1 year/x miles warranty.
Thanks for the referral, JetJockey! Yes, we do carry OEM and aftermarket transmissions for less than two arms and a leg (hah!), including the parts required to rebuild one yourself if you are so inclined and/or ambitious!
