Correct Part Number for '05 Excursion Pitman Arm?
Correct Part Number for '05 Excursion Pitman Arm?
Does anyone have the correct Ford part number for an '05 6.0l Excursion Pitman Arm?
I'm going to replace my steering box with a Redhead unit very soon and wanted to just grab a new Pitman arm rather than trying to buy or borrow a puller that was large enough for the Excursion Pitman arm and then fighting it off.
The number stamped on the Pitman arm currently installed on my stock steering box is: AC34 3590 CA - But I don't think this is actually a part number?
All the searching I did, the only part number for the Pitman arm I could come up with was: 5C3Z-3590-BA
I ordered the part number above from the cheapest place I could find it (eBay
) and it arrived today. It was tagged with the part number above, but was stamped with: AC34-3590-BA. I took it out to the garage, and sure enough, it's not the right arm for my Ex...the splined side of the arm is wayyy too large.
Any help on the correct part number would be greatly appreciated.

Argh, that's what I was afraid of. I've been trying to avoid the local dealer here but it looks like I'll have to concede.
If your truck is 4x4 this is the arm I purchased last year for my truck. Fit the OEM steering box perfectly. Not sure if it will fit an 05 though, but something tells me it should...

No problem. The spline count on that piece is 36 teeth. I actually counted it when I received it.
If you google the part number you will see that it is a Moog part, which will then lead you to the interchange part numbers with Motorcraft so that might be of help. As far as the length, I did not measure mine sadly.

FWIW, I am 2wd, and I bought the largest Pitman arm puller from harbor freight, used a grinder to remove a bit off both sides of the puller to slide passed the shaft. Liquid wrench, long breaker bar (after my impact did most of the work), and a few taps with a hammer and 'pop' off came the Pitman arm.
The 'mystery' of the '05 excursion about whether a front end part is the same as '04 or '05 super duty is the biggest PITA to me. Hence I buy tools vs. Parts whenever possible.

pitman arm splines are tapered and usually require a few solid whacks from a steel 3lb hammer while under tension from the puller to get them loose.
seems crude and I suppose it is but that is how it's done.
those HF pullers usually bust if you try to remove the pitman by just cranking on the puller with an impact.
