Another Pitman Arm Question
Another Pitman Arm Question
I am getting ready or order a new pitman arm for my 2000 EX in advance of getting a new Red Head gear box. Read several posts on this and people struggling with the 36 spline vs 32 spline and have seen several state all Excursions have 36 spline. Looked on Ebay; Raybestos and Moog both maybe have one that probably fits but information is so bad on the 36/32 issue not wanting to risk that, so broke down and went to Ford and looked it up.
Two things surprised me:
1. The OEM ones are actually a little bit cheaper than the ebay options. Don't think there is much "upgrade" room in this part so nothing gained by paying more for aftermarket.
2. Even Ford lists both the 32 spline and the 36 spline for the 2000 Ex and that is with my VIN entered before searching.

I know the "real" way to be sure, is to go out and count the splines on the box. Tried that but this is one part in my front end that hasn't been replaced, and it is covered in gunk, grease, rust, crud and with the reach I couldn't get an accurate count. I was able to clean off the bottom of the arm and get the exact part number, but since Ford only lists 4 digits of the part number and the prefix and suffix change by vehicle is was of little help. I can't find this exact part number in any search.
Part number on the bottom of my pitman arm is YC35-3590-AB
Anybody out there who has that part number on their pitman arm that could count their splines for me and confirm I need the 36?

Tousley Ford is one of our sponsors for FTE. Give them your VIN number and information about your X and they can get you the correct part for your vehicle and a good price.
Since you believe its the original equipment then it should be easy for them to get the correct part.

One when I got this truck it was horribly rusted and that includes the pitman arm, but it and the gear box are the only two things underneath I haven't replaced or restored. See pic on what I mean when I say rusted.
Second it's only about $40 and I don't have the tools or know how to pull it to move it to my new gear box. So thinking it will be worth $40.
No, I wasn't trying to post a picture of the pitman arm, don't have one was just posting a pic of what the underside looked like. You can apply that and guess what the pitman arm looks like as well. That axle is gone replaced with a D60 along with the mounts and bar, but pitman arm is still what came on the truck. Took a dremel and 20 minutes just to get it clean enough to get a part number off the thing.
