Zf5 Backing plate
I was getting ready to install it and was looking over all the paperwork and whatnot that came with it. The directions said I MUST use the original backing plate located between the crank bolts and flywheel when installing the new kit.
The problem is, I may have thrown that away with the old dual mass setup I had because I can't find anything like that around my house.
Does anyone have a picture of what this thing is, and would anyone know where I can get one or something I can substitute instead of the backing plate?
Thanks, hopefully I didn't screw up too bad by getting rid of that piece....
I read some things where people said it was like 1/8" thick piece, but they could have been taking about something else.
There is this link on ebay for something that may be it as well, but I don't know... I'm not too sure what I should look for to buy.
7 3 Powerstroke Diesel Flywheel Shim Ring Good Used | eBay
I may order this after class today, but I'll look around for that other thing you posted as well.
Edit: I called Ford and they had this part number: f5tz6a366a but said that item was discontinued. I can't seem to find a picture of it online either but I'll keep looking.
Edit 2: Well I called LUK and asked about what the instructions were referring to. The guy said that its just a flat shim that won't affect the spacing of the flywheel or anything. He said if I don't have it it's no big deal and to just bolt the flyhweel up without it. I'm assuming he must be correct if this part is discontinued and no were to be found! For now, I'll go ahead and do that.

Yeah I ended up just torquing the bolts down after talking to the LUK tech support. I only torqued them to 89 ft-lbs though but I used blue loctite.
I'm glad I have the engine out while I'm doing this... that flywheel is extremely awkward to hold in place to bolt it. Both my Bronco's current flywheel and my camaros flywheel seem like paper plates to this thing!
Anyways, I bolted the flywheel on, torqued it down, then aligned the clutch disk and torqued the pressure plate on. After that, I tried putting the bellhousing spacer/adapter on that the starter bolts to......
So I then took it all down and did it over again. Again, it's nice to do this with the engine out! Installing the turbo and my ceramic coated up-pipes and such was a breeze as well. Good thing I'm taking care of all these things while the engine is out! I think I'm done with engine work now!

I'll be swapping the radiator support bracket, battery trays etc. from the parts truck into my Bronco, so the whole front end will be off and I should be able to "slide" the motor in place, then bolt on the support bracket/lights/grill etc. I'm going to be painting everything while the whole front end is off as well.
If I were going to be pulling it out, it might not and I'd probably need the hood off as well. I don't have a hoist that can lift the motor high enough for that though, I'm just using my harbor freight shop crane!
