Yuck, that's terrible and I wish you patience and luck.
Patience, CHECK...Luck, Not So Much Today
This is what I found looking for a way to put a bolt through what I thought were striped threads. It really sucks when striped threads would have been a good thing
I'm not EVEN going to ask what the L stands for
It is 1/2 of the ear at the end of the shift tube. IE: a view from the back side of the pic in the 1st post.
POTmetal SUCKS
The shift tube is easy to replace and it looks like your 95% there already. I'm doing the same thing on my son's truck. I found his for $40 at Advance Auto. If was a little tough to find in the salvage yard as it seems to be a pretty common Ford problem, but I did come across a few.

Yea I'm 95% there alright..I ordered one off Amazon cause no one had it local & that is an hour trip T&B. $29.00 BUT I was going to do what ever I could before that
I was kind of surprised at how brittle that stupid aluminum is. I even had a clamp break as I was tightening the bolts down. 75% of the Fords we ran across in the scrapyards had the shift tubes already pulled.
