Got some play in my automatic column shift I want to eliminate. The split pin holding the lever itself has worn loose in the housing. Can I just drill and fit the next size pin? Also, that housing has some play on the column I'd like to get rid of. Any ideas of exactly what part is worn? Seems to be tight on the shaft.
If you use a bolt make sure to use one with a non threaded portion of the shank long enuf to go thru the assy. You don't want threads under the moving parts. Cut off the excess threaded portion of the bolt.
You might just want to look for a used column out of the scrapyard also.
Dorman has the shft ollar as wel, comes with a new spring, pointer, roll pin as well. I used my original spring / plunger in the new collar last week when I replaced mine.
I also needed a steering wheel puller and a small cheap 3.5" Autocraft Bearing Puller ($5 @ Advance Auto Parts) to pull the upper steering shift bearing after removing the rubber piece from around it. I modified the puller by cutting the two jaws shorter.
