FWIW, manual steering will wander like a herd of goats also.

Fixing the old box will probably help a lot; you may also find you need to aggressively attack all the little inconsequential bits of slop. There's a thing called 'tolerance stack-up' where a little bit here + a little bit there+ a little more bit over there = big trouble... a friend of mine had a persistent death wobble in his Jeep which turned out to be a sum of loose but in-spec parts causing a hellacious problem.

I'm just gonna fix this seal and most likely buy a better box down the road. I was under the assumption that the manual boxes were tighter/more durable than the power models. Thanks for your help guys.

Hi, My friend just had a manual box go south on him, the worm gear on the shaft wore out. He had a lot of play in the steering before it started to lock up on him. My point is unless you find a rebuilt manual box you might have the same problem you have now. You will also need a non P/S pitman arm which will add to the cost. I put in a Redhead box in my truck and the steering is tight. I did some research before spending the money and found they go though every box and upgrade the bearings from the stock style. They also send you a new box and you ship your back for the core charge so your truck doesn't need to sit. Mine is driver also just rolled over 13k this yr.

Just so you know, if you do swap to a manual steering box, you'll also have to swap the steering column. The manual box is physically smaller so the manual column is longer to compensate.
