5 speed on the tree

5 speed on the tree

I am working on future plans for my 56 f100 long bed. I want to put a 5.0 coyote in it with a 5 speed transmission down the road. It has a 272 y block with a 3 on the tree. What I am wondering is, I absolutely love the 3 on the tree but when I get a 5 speed transmission is there a way to keep it on the tree and not put a shifter in the middle of the floor. I like the clean look of it being on the column and don't want to put a shifter on the floor. Thanks for any help that you can give me

Perhaps you can omit 2nd and 4th and just use 1st, 3rd and 5th. Those two are just gears that we skip from time to time anyway.

If you can dream it, you can do it.

I had a Mercedes at one point that had a 4-sp on the column. Unbelievably complicated to get 4 speeds, I can't imagine what it would take to get 5 + R. Especially since Reverse likely needs a push down to hit.

I kind of love challenges and I dont think anything is impossible

The 3 speed ha 4 slots, 2 slots in default location and 2 slots are spring loaded i.e moves the pin to the slot in the second lever.

You simply need to manufactore a 3 leveler system i.e 6 slots total. 1 default and 2 spring loaded (1 up and 1 down)

How does the transmission look like. It would be easier if it had 3 shift forcs

The International Cargostar/Loadstar tilt cabs had five on the tree. Had the same modified H pattern, only on a vertical plane. I forgot what the transmissions were though.
