Somewhere a few years ago i remember reading or hearing or watching something about someone modifying a 3 speed colum shifter to work with a 4 speed. Any one know or have any ideas or comets on this?? any one ahev any idea how to do this?? thanks
The early ford econolines had a 4 speed on the column - owned one once. Worked well with the 144 six, but not a heavy enough transmission for a big V8. It is possible they had it on a 289 V8, but I never saw one.
Why would you want this? You could not speed shift it, and most people had problems driving it. Wife number one wiped out a garage door because first and reverse were in the same position - you had to lift the shifter up to get reverse.
Why not keep things simple and have a shifter on the floor?
