Aftermarket Tailgates

I've been looking for an original to replace the one on my 68 but haven't been able to find one in good shape. Does any one have any experience or recommendation with aftermarket tailgates? I'm concerned about the fit and body lines on them. Thanks.

A friend of mine bought one and had no problems with it. It looked nice.

For what year and model? Do you need a tail gate for a 67-72? Do you need a tail gate for the Ranger XLT with wood grain panel?
Exactly what are you looking for?

I bought an aftermarket tailgate that had no FORD script, because it was for my Merc. The fit was great, but they told me, "It's just for show, you can't be throwing a load of gravel on it!" The metal is lighter gauge and therefore less rigid. I've had it on there for 17 years and it still looks new. I've never put anything heavier than a full cooler on it though.

68 Merc, the only drawback in that is the cooler should be emptied as soon as possible to avoid frame damage. Keep up the good work!!

Unfortunately I'm in Canada, as I have a darn near mint tailgate for the 69 f250 Camper Special buddy gave to me. I still havnt decided what to do with the truck, but I'm leaning toward the 4x4 conversion since I have the complete donor already sitting here. If I go that route I wont be using the tailgate. It would be mint, but it needs paint. It has the original paint and chrome. Chrome is mint. Surprisingly the inside of the gate is still shinny like new. Lol, figure original owner never put anything in the box as its mint. In fact the truck has the original tires and rims it had from factory. Lol. Kind of a barn find. Anyway, wish I could help you. I'm not allowed In the US, so..... You are close though, I'm in Langley BC.

Thanks everyone, I'm just looking for the standard FORD tailgate, no XLT trim or anything. I'll probably order one from Dennis Carpenter today since they have 15% off and I found out they use original ford tooling to make their's.

True that it's "original ford tooling" but it's made in Taiwan. As it has been said, let us know what you think.

Yeah right. I know all about there "Made in USA" BS it's made overseas then shipped here. What do they charge for shipping? Anything made overseas just has to have a sticker placed on it that says where it is made from, once it is here the sticker gets removed.
Can you imagine the size of the machine that is necessary to stamp out a tailgate? Ask D.C. where it's made.
I just spoke with John from D.C. When I asked about where it was made. John hung up on me. Not good.
