Program New Key FOB with Torque Pro

Has anyone done this? I only have 1 key so looks like I will have to go to the dealer if this cannot be done with torque pro.

Torque Pro cannot do this. Off to the dealer you go! Believe it or not, its a security feature so that someone cant just program their own key in, and steal your truck.

Dang, now we will see how they like it when I tell them to NOT do the recall reprogram.

I bought 2 keys from Amazon for $40. Dealership wants $50 to program. Guess if the dealership gives me **** about the recall, I'll the locksmith and see what he has to say about programming.

No not too bad, just don't know what they are going to say when I tell them to get bent if they want to do the recall reprogram.

There is a time delay built into the programming of new keys. As stated above, this delay prevents a thief from programming new keys in a relative short time span. When programming new key when you only have one, the original key is erased and then both keys are programmed. Time to program the keys ranges from 30 minutes to one hour shop time.

Ask them to turn on unlimited key mode. This allows more than the usual 8 keys max.

And in addition to what Larry said, the dealer also told me that if you have at least two keys already programmed in, then you can add additional keys on your own without going to the dealer. Its in the owners manual for the procedure.

Yes I understand that, that's why I was curious if I could do it with torque pro. I lost one key.

I lost a key on my 2011 and had to do it. I found dealers from $50 to $300 to reprogram it. Obviously when I found the $50 dealer I did it that way. Locksmiths were $60 as well, but when I went to a dealer for new batteries I asked about the key and they were nice enough to do it for $50... I ordered the key online and it came cut already. Debating on programming an extra key NOW while I can and putting it in my safe that way if I lose one, I can order another a reprogram it. Thankfully I don't lose keys all that often. (knock on wood)

A guy lost the key to his Mustang when I was at the $150 dealer... A new key and programmed they charged him over $600 for... I almost fell over when I heard that. All said and done IIRC it was less than $200...

Even if you get just a plain, non-IKT key, It is good insurance/idea to buy even from eBay an 80bit chip key with SA stamped on it. Have it cut for a couple dollars and then program it using the 2 existing keys.

This can be accomplished for $20 or less. If you really want to be safe, buy two blank keys to cut and program so you can stash both keys away. Still about $20 to do this.

I carry on my cellphone a photo of the key code tag I received when I purchased my truck along with the Keyless Entry Pad card in the same photo.

Larry, Can you provide any links to the proper keys? I'd be interested in this. I know nothing about non-IKT, or 80bit chip keys, etc. It would be nice to have a couple of spares, dont need to be remote start keys.

Thanks, DAve

I frequently leave my keys in the truck while riding my horses. I'd really hate to loose my keys 20 miles from truck with the truck parked 30 miles from the nearest town, and probably 100 miles to the nearest locksmith. And I hate almost anything in my pockets when I'm sitting in the saddle.

So I am relying a lot on my Keyless entry to always work and a good battery.

Just to be safe, I bought two keys off Ebay or Amazon and had them cut by a local locksmith, I then programmed them myself with the two original keys and hid one under the truck. I might have to crawl in the mud one day, But I'll have a back up key for the truck and horse trailer available. The big IF, is remembering where I hid them.

The two keys I bought off Ebay don't have the remote start, but for back up keys I didn't care about that. And they were not very expensive. Your truck can have up to 8 keys programmed for it, with out the unlimited key mode.
