I've been narrowing down a problem in my truck where it basically falls on its face while under load/ acceleration. I believe the problem is the ignition module(because I replaced it with an old unit I had laying around and it ran perfect). That being said I want to buy a new one but not exactly sure what to get. I believe it is a duraspark II but not certain. How can I know exactly what I have so I can get another? Or, is there a better upgrade to the duraspark II?
Take it to an auto parts store first and have them test it, there's nothing worse than ordering a new part, installing it, and finding out it's something else. I know advanced auto parts can test them for free, I took mine there and they were able to.

Pictures of what you have are beneficial when posting...just sayin'.
FTE folks can generally identify what you have when looking at a picture.
I think I misread your post... If it's a silver box that is bolted to your driver side wheel well, you have duraspark II. If you have something that is attached to your distributer, you have tfi, lariat is correct, you want the blue grommet, it's where the wires go into the "box"
Just an update. It is a DurasparkII and that must've been the problem because the old one i replaced it with seems to be working fine so I will be ordering a new one soon. Thanks for the help!
Great price! Search online for Rock auto discount and normally, you will get a number to use when you check out and get 5% discount [$1.74]. Every little bit helps!!!
Since the OP seems to have resolved his issue, hopefully it won't be a problem if I derail this conversation slightly...
Does anyone have a feel for how long these modules will be readily available? I'm planning to keep this truck running for the long haul (through the 2035-2040 timeframe, at a minimum), so I'm starting to think about long-term parts availability. I know Ford made a zillion vehicles with Duraspark II, so they'll be around for a while, but should I go ahead and buy a couple now just to be safe?
Well, since Ford hasn't produced a DSII vehicle since 1987 I'm amazed there are still modules around.

My truck seems to eat one every 80-100k.
How much do you intend to drive your truck?
I'm currently putting about 2500 miles/year on the truck, and I don't see that changing much going forward...it has just under 129K miles now, so even through 2040 that will only be 190,000 miles. It has a replacement module in there now...but it was in there when I got the truck in 2010, and I have no idea when it was originally installed. So if your numbers hold true for me, I can expect to replace the module one more time...so it sounds like two is the correct number to buy.
