Good morning.96 bronco The tailgate window is stuck down about 3 inches
will not roll up . Neither the key in the tailgate or the switch on the dash work the motor. The power windows in both doors works. Just got
a diagram of the fuses from this thread. Hoping it is just a fuse but
if not where do i go with this diagnosing the problem. Thanks
Check if the motor in the rear is getting power. The most usual failures of these windows are either power or the internal plastic rollers breaking (if you can hear the motor turning when you use the dashboard switch or the key this is the problem).
Mine did this, and it was a jammed plastic roller like Encho said. When the roller jams, you can probably tell which side because its sagging lower than the other side.
This is less likely the problem with the window partially rolled down and the problem happening after the fact BUT, I'd try and make sure the tailgate is fully closed all the way as well.
I know my 96 Bronco had an issue long ago where the safety switch believed the tailgate wasn't fully closed when it in fact was. Due to this, the window wouldn't roll down/up at all.
The temporary fix for this is to get a buddy to push hard on one end of the tailgate while you push hard on the key end while simultaneously turning the key to try and get the window down (you can do it by yourself but it's harder to push it in properly.) Pushing hard enough will push the tailgate in slightly enough to deactivate the safety switch so the window can move.
IF that is the problem, then I'd look at the tailgate latch striker positions and see if they need to be adjusted AND also replace the tailgate striker latch bushings.

Good point!
I had this happen to me years ago on my '94. I couldn't get the window down, was up all the way, thought I'd have to crawl back there and take the tailgate access panel off to troubleshoot. But by chance noticed that the upper left corner of the tailgate wasn't perfectly in-line with the rear fender, and it used to be. It wasn't shut tight enough!
But can't get the window down to open the tailgate to slam it again, due to the interlock! Had a second person twist key in tailgate switch while I pressed in with all my might to push on the tailgate there. Finally got it. After that, I make sure when closing tailgate to have my left hand up at the left top of the tailgate, to push a lot from there. No problems since starting that method.
Thanks guys for sharing your wisdom. I'll have time next week to investigate further.
It looks like the panel line up. I'll give it shove/key turn trick when i can get
my neighbor to help me.
I had a cracked block in the 89. My mechanic found a 302 engine with 91k mi.
He installed the engine and new clutch. Cost me $1,300 for everything. I thought
it was a fair price for everything that was done. . It runs great now,i am enjoying
driving it... i took some new photos of the 89 check out my personal profile for
new photos. Thanks a lot! Kirb
Kirby as discussed by Encho , the plastic rollers are notorious about going bad(disintergrating) heat etc.... .I have a 1992 bronco and have rebuilt mine twice . Both times after the rebuild I grease and maintenance the rear tailgate . Good luck TR
