SMF comversion kit questions

So my original dual mass flywheel is on it's way out. I have been shopping around for conversion kits, and I see that there are different part numbers for
factory turbo trucks, and n/a or aftermarket turbo trucks.
I have a factory turbo. Can I use an n/a clutch or flywheel? What is the difference?

Also, does anyone know offhand the overall length of an ext cab long bed obs? I just bought a house with a garage(my first garage yay!), but the garage is only about 19.5' deep... I don't know if I can even pull my truck in to do the clutch job.

The turbo are balanced a little different because bigger rods different pistons and pins. I think your garage will be too short, but if you quick it can easily be done in a day. I did my auto to 5 speed swap in 2 days.

Lol... I made that same mistake when I bought my house.... The first load of stuff I brought over was going into the garage, backed up and realized the door wasn't tall enough to drive in... DOH!

Honestly its not a problem if the truck is sticking out while you're working on it. Pull the front in and where you're working will be out of the weather, and thats the important part.

Back on topic, I HIGHLY recommend the LUK kit. It give the clutch pedal a whole new feel. Instead of having to stand on the pedal, the LuK kit feels like driving a car, nice and soft like a clutch should feel like. I swapped one into my '88 and it was a night and day difference. Makes for a much more comfortable driving experience.
In comparison, the southbend a previous owner put on my '93 feels pretty much like the DMF. Stiff as hell, takes my whole leg to press, and generally sucks ***** in stop and go traffic.

A buddy of mine just changes his in his 97 and he got his through napa and it ended up being a luk kit and the cheapest priced kit he could find.

When I the SMF in my 89 I used a kit from NAPA. It was a LUK when I opened it up. I have probably 30-40000 miles on mine with no problems.

Valair IDI package. Never use another if theirs is still available. I converted the '83 to a ZF5 and used the original flywheel single mass that came with the truck -4 speed with bell housing- and there is a difference of .600 or 5/8'' difference from a dual mass ZF5. This was a problem on the slave cyl. rod but I made that adjustable. Some times you find problems in swaps others did not seem to have, perhaps the difference in mass production and tolerance caught up with me. Just be careful.

I'm not sure I'd agree with that. I'm pretty sure the NEW DMF I put on my truck was and OEM Valair. Like a year later it self destructed.... Maybe its cuz it was a DMF.. but I'd expect it to last quite a bit longer especially since I only put on like 10-15,000 miles in that time...

I hope that's not the case. I just put a Valair clutch in the '89 and they said it was the only IDI they carried and it was for the SMF. I installed the first 6 years ago and it was great until I let an inexperienced driver in this past snow season. He ruined it and he came recommended as a relief driver. I'm running their SMF in one of my Powerstrokes and it has already lasted longer than either of the DMF I used. I've also been pulling heaver loads with the Valair's. There is always the chance of a defect getting past inspectors?
