E4OD selector cable

I am looking for the length of the selector cable for an e4od transmission. I have found ones for a c6 and they are 59" long. I have found one off a e4od transmission and the guy said it was 55" long. now I am questioning the position of the selector switch on the transmission. the one I replaced was messed up and couldn't get a measurement. The used/new one(off a c6 because of the length I assume) I put on put the selector on the tranny all the way to the rear, so when you put the vehicle in drive it pulls the tranny selector forward. I am pretty sure its right because it starts up and doesn't crash through the barn door! Any help would be appreciated! Don,92 F350 Crew Cab 4x4 460gasser

Length is the question. 59" for a C6 and 54" for an E4OD. but still wonder where the selector switch on the tranny will sit with 5 less inches in it. Thanks.

Wouldn't make any difference if the ratio of inner cable to outer casing is the same between both cables for both transmissions.

The assembly as a whole might simply be shorter and yet provide the same net inner cable total travel distance.

If the cable was long enough as so routing wasn't undesirable, you get full range of motion from "park" down to "1st" gear? that is all that would matter as indexing for each position/position count, isn't function of the cable itself.

When you put on the MLPS and have it lined up correctly, the selector lever out of the trans will only go in one position, it is keyed.

Is this a new trans? Why are you looking at one for a c6? These, for an E4OD, are not hard to find.

One thing though...I just replaced my E4OD and the new one I received had a selector lever (shifter linkage that the MLPS mounts to) and the lever pointed down where as my original pointed up. Both were correct, for a certain model, I had to swap out the linkage

I have a cable installed and it seems to work through all of the functions. I am rebuilding my truck and haven't driven it yet. Its a rebuilt tranny. Thanks.

newbie question here...

i picked up an E40D ('96) which will be going behind a '95 351W. that's all i got (well, hopefully the harness(es) in an accompanying box of wires??).

so no shifter at all. i'm assuming there were no OEM floor shifters (though i've found an expensive aftermarket one).

what all do i need? a column shifter, some sort of linkage back to the tranny, and the harness to the control module? is the module separate from the EEC for the motor? does the "selector cable" referenced in this thread take the place of a linkage?

any photos of the linkage or the shifter? i'm new to this, and can't quite visualize what i'm after since i got this stuff piecemeal (this is destined for a '52 F3, btw).

bonus question (which i'll also ask in the vintage truck forum): is there a column shifter available for the E40D and for my old-style column? don't want a '90s era plastic unit in this old truck.

(kinda)

thanks in advance!!
