I had a partial wiring job done on my short bed using painless wiring and it's worked great.........in the process right now with re-wiring my long bed with a complete harness, below is the type
I am using the painless harness that came with all the switches. It is nice but the instructions suck from my point of view. I am used to electrical diagrams and they do not provide you with that. They pretty much say wire #.......goes from point a to point b. Since my truck is running a diesel and a GM alternator, wire diagrams would have helped me. For a stock replacement you would probably be fine. There is also American autowire and Centeck you should check out. Oh, and the other thing I did not like was the wires come out of both ends of the fuse block where some of the others have it where the wires only come out of one side of the fuse block.
2x on Centech... it uses Ford plugs whereas Painless is more or less patterned for GM vehicles.
My painless came with all ford plugs and switches identical to what was original to these trucks. It's the other cheaper harnesses like EZ wire that are for GM. The Centech and American Autowire come with the same exact plugs and switches as the painless but seem to have a more favorable fuse block and are a little cheaper. I will more than likely never buy a painless again; it was very lacking in the instructions.
I got the 28 circuit painless harness I'll be using in my truck. Haven't got to that point yet of my build to wire it yet but like f100today said it looks to lack instructions in my opinion as well. when I was laying it out on the floor just to get an idea on how it would be run in the truck. Looks like it will be a challenge for sure.

It's not really that bad. I completed my first rewire recently and it went pretty smoothly. If you are leaving your truck stock, 28 circuits is a TON. You're going to have lots of wires left over. You would be better off with around 12.
^^MY thought also. What do you plan on doing with all 28 circuits?
I am in the process of building a harness for a '41 ****** kit car. One is a EZ harness 20 circuit, the other is? I borrowed some of the GM plugs from the ? harness and put on the EZ harness. The bad thing is the information given with either of the harnesses is really vague. The EZ harness doesn't even give you a list for the fuse in the fuse panel. Nothing. You have to have some wiring experience or it can get real ugly. I did things like add relays to the headlight circuit.
Even the 20 circuit is too much for this car and it has every conceivable electric gadget.
