I forgot about this post and I got scared that someone's husband got killed in the Ex! Wish I could change that title.
Anyways, replacing cables is on the list for next time it's in. How hard is it as a diy for common folk?

HELP!!!!!! My Husband Killed the EX!!
I'm not sure how hard it is add I haven't tried but add others have stated, the cable in the pic you posted might leave you stranded. And that connection may have been loose for quite some time, look how the insulation appears took have started melting near the terminal. #1 sign of a loose connection which creates heat and eventually melts the wires.
