As promised pics of it on the truck... also two of the rims came with tires. beads are popped so they are flat and dry rotted but it at least gives me an idea of what it is going to look like. Also tossed the 16 spokes on for a picture too (Tell me the 18 spokes look better cz thats what I have to go with lol) I think I like them better too. Plan is to buy 37s once its running and driving or if I can find a good set of anything 16.5 on craigslist for under $200 I'll put those on for now.
First pic is the rims that don't fit. 2nd pic is the new set (and yes they are that dirty it looks like in between the fins was painted black lol) Also sorry I dont have the front fender on right now either. Has a small rust spot and came off when I tore down the interior/took the door off. It still gives an idea on the truck tho
Yeah was hoping some kid would be selling some super swampers for cheap on Craigslist. It's not what I want but looking for anything cheap at the moment. I plan to run military take offs. Alphatread (based in Tucson) has a good price along with Trail Worth Fab in Kansas.... he currently is selling tires for $40 guarantee to hold air and nothing else. Sadly he won't confirm if any are 10+ years old and my shop won't mount anything that old. His normal tire price is $150 for good tires tho. So I'll probably buy is good tires when I'm ready... Shipping to me is $180 which isn't too bad. Or I visit my buddy in Tucson and haul back my own tires. Anyway that's decision for a later day lol
TWF might be closer for you? Also ck out the Craigslist in Indianapolis and south. Camp Atterbury National Guard base is about 4 miles west of Edinburgh...you might locate some slightly used military take offs in that area.
Have you thought about wheel spacers? Some people don't like them, I know. But that would get you away from the knuckle and you won't have to be looking for 16.5 tires.

I'm set on turbines lol so I'd be looking for 16.5 tires no matter what. Also my plan has always been to run 37s so it's basically a win/win. I don't have a problem buying military take offs. Just at the moment not spending the money while it's torn down. So if something cheap comes along I'll toss em on for now so I have a solid set of rollers / be able to drive right away. If nothing comes up when the truck is ready to drive, then I'll buy the 37s.
2 thoughts as I sit in my warm house because its just too dang cold to work on the truck today... been doing a lot of research for the rims and have two questions if people can give their insight on: 1. Are hub centric rings worth it/necessary? I know they don't change the fact that the stress is on the lugs but it is supposed to help center the rim so you don't have balance issues... I thought the lugs center the rims but its apparently pretty common on street cars to use em... If I did buy some I found a website that does custom ones because no one makes em big enough for my truck lol 2. If my rim thickness (lug nut holes) measure 1.132" deep should I get lug nuts with a shaft length of .75", 1.00" , or 1.38"? .75" just doesnt seem long enough, but is 1" long enough when I add the washer, or will 1.38" be too long even with a washer?
I have seen thick face aluminium rims run shank lug nuts with and or without a washer. You can see where the steel washer causes some dissimilar metal corrosion issues on the rim.
I do know that what ever lug nut you run, make sure you have a good torque on them and ck them often. I have heard that aluminium rims are notorious for loosening up.
I do not have any issues on the ones on my blue truck....but they are a acorn style lug nut and not a shank style lug nut.
I'm thinking probably the 1" shaft. Thinking about it now, the washer won't be a quarter inch thick so the 1.38" is most likely too big. And I figure if the wheel is 1.1ish" and the studs are just shy of sticking out then 1" with a washer should have plenty of threads to grab into. Just makes me feel a little safer knowing I have 1" of threads grabbed as opposed to 3/4" of the threads grabbed.
Anybody know where to get a drum backing plate? I switched gears while I wait on the dry ice blaster to call me back to clean up the timing cover. Figured now was a good time to do my brake overhaul. Well was buying parts and then noticed there were different brake shoe widths so went out and started tearing down driver front side. Found out my brake shoes are 2" wide. Also found out the shop I had it towed to on my way home, didn't bother telling me or fixing the backing plate, they just cut off the damaged part. So now I am needing a new backing plate. Let me know if y'all know where I can buy one from online or leads to one. Here's a pic I took of the spring hardware to reference but you can see the cut at the bottom.
