I've got a problem with the spring steel "sleeve " that sits on the lower section of the intermediate steering shaft on my 88 F350, it has a series of notches that keep it from sliding and I can't find one that these notches aren't missing, torn, etc. and without them you end up with a really sloppy fit which really makes adjustments impossible because of all the slack. Does anybody have a part number, etc. or contact outlet where I could find one?
unfortunately, that was never a repair part. you had to buy a new column from ford.
i have repaired a few with busted columns out of junkyards when a good column was not available, but it is a royal pain in the butt to do, and takes hours to get rite.
i always look for a good column first before trying to fix a bad one
it is a stainless spring steel clip that keeps the nylon bushing between the upper and lower steering shafts in the steering column.when it wears enough it will fall out and allow the bushing to either fall down, or ride up the lower column until it pops loose and gives you a around 1/4 play in the column.
Thank-you Tom. I have post mixed up and parts!!! You replied on a seperate thread about a plastic sleeve that I need. One that is not listed in service manual: obscure part.
