Another Oil Question.

Trying to decide if a when I'll change to SYN.

At what milage did you guys decide to change or to full synthetic?

Once you have gone full SYN, have you seen any changes? (Milage, longer runs between changes, quite, etc)?

I have just under 15K on mine right now and almost ready for a oil change. I haven't decided to swop over yet or not. Will start towing the 5er for the spring summer soon so I need to make a decision really soon.

I also just checked with the local dealer on pricing for the 1 gallon jugs of Motorcraft 5w-40 full SYN. $54.71 a jug. I know I can run other brands. I was just posting prices for others to see.

As always,

Thanks in advanced.

Brice

I get my oil generally from Walmart. They also stock the M/C oil filter.
Depending on temps I run MC 15-40wt

Rotella T6 5-40 in the winter.

Motor does not care of you go back and forth.

I run T-6 5W40 syn. all year long. My old 6.0 liked it and so does my 6.7. Walmart seems to have the best everyday prices on oil.

5W40 all year. I buy it on sale and take it to the dealer. They charge for filter and labor.
No reason to run 15w40 just because we used to; things have changed over the years.
I switched at my 5000 mile oil change and now change it when the OLM tells me to.

I switched to T6 at 3,500 miles. I'm now at 88k miles and I just recently switched to DELO 10W30 Syn Blend.

I switched to Rotella T6 at 50,000. I ran Motorcraft 15w-40 before that. I should have switched sooner, I just didn't. I run it about 7,000 miles. If I ever get a new truck, I'll probably switch as soon as the factory fill is dumped.

First oil change I went to Valvoline Premium Blue Extreme 5w40. That's all I've been running since. That's what I ran in my old truck for years.

As mentioned, the engine doesn't care when you switch. These aren't the old days when synthetics didn't play nice with gaskets and seals and whatnot.

Why do you prefer T6 over Motorcraft oil? Or is it the weight your prefer?

Hey, Thanks for the responses.

I haven't done anything yet. I bought MC 10/30 SDDO from Wally tonight for just under $18.00 a gallon jug. I know it's the standard oil but I'm figuring I'll have another oil change before i start towing the 5er through the mountains during the heat of the summer. I'll probably switch over to SYN then.

I've noticed on some folks switch between SYN and standard. I though once you change over to full SYN you shouldn't change back and fourth? Is this true?

I can see good reasons to change over to T6 though. I've seen T6 ****ting on the shelf in a lot of places but I can't say that about MC.

No it isn't. Your engine doesn't care and it'll hurt nothing.

The primary reason I switched was I wanted to use full synthetic, the motorcraft oil I was using was not. I could not find full synthetic motorcraft diesel oil locally. I selected T6 because of various recommendations here by members over the years. For the southern states, 15w-40 is typically fine which is probably true for TX as well, except for the rare multiple days below freezing and single digits like in 2014. At least with 5w-40 I don't have to think about it but weight doesn't add much to the decision for this area.
