I have a 2006 F-250 6.0 PSD. It currently has 59k on it.
I do some light towing at the moment, until we purchase another camper, but mostly go back and forth to work on a daily basis.
I'm not asking what kind of oil to use, I have searched and decided on that.
My question is this..... Would you,
1 Change oil and filter every 3k using Motorcraft 15W40.
or
2 Change oil and filter every 5k using Rotella Synthetic 5W40.
Over 60000 miles there is only a $160 total cost difference with the current oil and Motorcraft filter prices I have found locally.
Depends on what part of the country you live in. Cost difference aside, I verify what works best through Blackstone Laboratories oil analysis every change. So due to consistently great reports, (primarily wear metal, additive pkg., etc) I use 15w40. (Delo)
I go 7500 Km, 5000 miles, and am using Delo 5w40 full synthetic.100,000 Km or 60,000 miles and not a problem. Amsoil is not API CI4+ or CJ4 therefor, I would not recemend using it in a 6.0. Yes, its my opinion, and maybe it is better oil, but I dont think I want to be the one to find out its not and have to replace injectors or do a long block.... Also, 25,000 miles in a 6.0 is NOT going to work, it requires changed oil for the HEUI injectors. Like binuya is saying, with blackstone every 5000 I might consider increasing to OCI to longer, but I would be very careful. An oil change is a lot cheaper than injector failures or bearing issues when the oil is depleted or dilited from idling or hard work.
Amsoil P/N DEOQT 5W-40 API CJ-4, CI-4+ for 2007 and newer not recomended for Extended drain interval in Cat C13/C15 Dodge 6.7L, Ford 6.4L, GM 6.6L
Amsoil P/N AMEQT 15W-40 API CI-4+/CF/CF-2/Sl for pre 2007 recomended for 50,000 plus drain interval.
Amsoil is out of the question, I see no reason to spend that kind of money for oil. If I did use it, I would still not go over 5-6k between oil changes. I would loose sleep if I tried to go 25k OCI.
I drove 5000 miles on Motorcraft per dealer recommendation and just changed the oil using Rotella.
I noticed much lower noise coming from the engine and smoother idle.
Am I hallucinating?
BTW I am sending sample of old Motorcraft oil to Blackstone, but it is going to take some time for test results to come back.
I saw a few threads somewhere where others had the same experience when going from Motorcraft to Rotella. And also when going from Rotella to Delo. I think I am going to go with Delo or Rotella and change every 5k with a few used oil analysis samples in there just to make sure.
Does anybody see a problem with running Rotella Synthetic 5W40 @ 3,000mi intervals, since it seems he doesnt mind changing his oil @ "reduced" intervals?

Okay, I'm not going to argue the FACTS!! Everyone is talking "Oil Analysis". Then do the research your self. Run Motorcraft, Rotella and Amsoi and run them for the same amount of miles, say 10,000 or 5,000 miles. Send in the oils at the end of each mileage and see the results for your self like I did. Just my 2 cents.
