When the door is opened, the dome light and the light on the back of the cab comes on. When the engine is started, the lights are supposed to go off. Now the lights want to stay on. I have the battery disconnected to keep it from running down. I have seen videos of guys spraying wd-40 into the door latch ...didn't work for me, and one where a guy had a short in the fuse box and another showing how to replace the door handle switch (door ajar light). I can't see how the door switch has anything to do with the dome light since the ignition switch turns the lights off. I,m open to any suggestions. Thanks in advance.
when you open the door, the dome light comes on.......... don't need the key....... go out tonight and check that....90% of the time, it is the switch in the drivers door latch.
My Expedition was having the exact same symptoms when I got it. Steve(ill) is 100% correct here, as the driver's door switch experiences the most use/wear. Instead of WD-40, try spraying PB Blaster inside the latch. WD-40 doesn't have a solvent to penetrate into crevasses, PB Blaster does and it makes a world of difference.
The key is to open/close the door several times to help work the PB Blaster into all the nooks & crannies inside the latch mechanism. 5x on each one should be plenty. I did this on all 4 doors and the hatch's two latches, she works predictably and effortlessly now.
kd4gij, what is this Curtsey light? The interior lights do this??
Sorry, I couldn't resist No, our trucks to not have a Courtesy Time-Delay Light that I am aware of.
