I am posting in hopes of getting my bronco back on the road quickly. While backing into my parking spot tonight something happened and my steering sector blew a gasket. The top plate with the adjustment screw is broke in 2 pieces now and the gasket has blown out the side coating the engine with power steering fluid. I have found a seal kit but not the broken part.
This on my '78 which mounts on outside of the frame. I can take some pics tomorrow.
I'm glad you found the needed parts. I can say I've never seen one broken there before. Be sure to take lots of pics so you can post a how-to on rebuilding the steering box later.
I have a write up on how to rebuild the steering box in my signature, it will help you for sure, I'm pretty sure you've seen it before (and commented on it too ). And imagecrap just lost every single image in every one of my write-ups, I'll have to re-upload them to the site (FTE this time). I'll get to it now.
Saved about $350 by getting parts to fix it vs buying rebuilt unit.
Must be shopping at the wrong place. AC Delco $162 from Rock Auto when core returned. IMO they should credit the core since it is rebuildable. Regardless, I hope you find out why the cover split in the first place when you do the rebuild.

It wasn't to bad to fix, $110 for the parts and a couple hours labor. It would have taken less time but I dropped one of the little ***** on the floor.
