I have been plagued by a leaking steering box since I bought my pickup. Finally ordered parts from Napa 27 bucks. I bought a seal kit for the input shaft and Pittman arm shaft seals. About three hours total I had them changed. The little repair shop down the road from me told me to put the box back in with the Pittman arm off and the retainer ring out and start the truck and turn the wheel to lock and blow the Pittman arm seal out. It works great . I wish I would have taken pics but didn't to lazy I guess. But so far no leaks. The hardest part was getting my steering wheel center again. If anyone wants I will post the pics of the boxes and part numbers. A easy fix inexpensive and may delay having to buy a remanufactured box.
I remembered seeing post about it. I'm very computer illiterate so I searched couldn't find what I needed so I just dove in. I wrote my post basically to say how easy it really is and to at least give it a try . And Mike I remember your name in those post also. Giving great advice.
No need to search for the 1st 4 RED READ FIRST threads, that are always there.
Do you see the blue line with User CP, Albums, FAQ? See the SEARCH on that line? It has a drop down search menu arrow, go to the "Advanced Search" option, top left side (search block) type in there what you are looking for and then go to the lower right column and highlight 73-79 forum. Select it and then you will have a detailed search just in the 73-79 forums.
Hey that is something I didn't try. I did mean you 77 79. In my last post about remembering a name giving all the great advice. Looks like I should look around the site and try different things. Thanks for the advice. I appreciate it
