Typical Boost Pressure

I just recently installed a CTS2 Insight and wondering what the typical boost pressures I should be seeing without a load just normal driving. RIght now I am seeing mostly 0 unless under acceleration then it goes up to 10 psi if I floor it I am getting 15psi. Thanks for the help.

Stock truck, cruising should be around 2 to 3 and on the fuel around 18 max.

Thanks for the feed back. I wonder if it has something to do with my exhaust Back Pressure sensor throwing a code

A lot can come into factor with low boost, First off your way better than I was a year ago. Floored I was at 7psi.

1. Loose or worn out intercooler boots
2. up pipe is leaking, will also cause high EGT's

Do you know how to make a boost leak detector?

Another free fix is to get in there and tighten down all the clamps for the intercooler boots. Just curious, is your air box factory original or have upgraded. Stock is a bad design and dirt can get sucked in and will dust your turbo then will enter the engine and damage the cylinder walls. I know I'm starting to get off subject here but just watching out.

Very easy to do.

Thanks for the Link. Something I will do when I get back home. I do still have the stock box. Looking to upgrade to the AIS after reading all the comments on it on here.

You mentioned an EBP code - that shouldn't be ignored. Is there any soot anywhere under the hood? There shouldn't be. Key On Engine Off (KOEO) - look at BARO, MAP, and EBP - they should all be crazy close to the same.

The EBP code was found right when I put the insight in. Haven't driven it any since then. My poor truck lives to tow so she doesn't have much of a social life. I have not noticed any soot under the hood. What is the BARO,MAP, and EBP. What am I looking at?

Baro is the barometric pressure of the atmosphere and is dependent on where you are versus sea level. 14.7-14.8 or so at sea level. MAP is the pressure in the intake and EBP is the exhaust back pressure. They all should be within .1-.2 PSI of each other with the engine off but key on.

stock max boost is around 17-18.
my 02 with a DP F-5 chip will make over 25 lbs boost. but cruising not under load will show only 2-3 lbs boost

Does elevation affect boost? I live at 2200 feet and even with no leaks and a recent turbo my stock boost is always about 1-2 PSI less than most claim. No performance complaints though, she takes off like a scared rabbit. When I went to the coast I forgot to check it.

As mentioned when I am cruising at 65 MPH I will be right around 2 PSI. If I get on the fuel hard it will spike up to about 28 PSI. Before the GearHead Hydra was installed, I was hitting 22 PSI max with the mods listed in my signature.

Here is a link to reference on the acronyms I find it most helpful.

17-18 stock, about 22 with mods before chip.
Remember also that gauges & sensors can register a little different, so you may be fine with 15 lbs indicated on your truck.
Using a leak detector would not be a bad idea.
