I just want to hear people's opinions, good or bad, on aftermarket trailer brake controllers. I'm also curious about what shocks people prefer for towing.
I have a Prodigy P2 right now. It works great most of the time but occasionally it'll spaz out and lock the wheels. I can't recreate it but it's always at slow speed, like in between lights with heavy traffic. My neighbor said his dad's did the same thing. They ended up getting a different one and never had that problem again.
Bilsteins were top of my list but I've never used them for towing, just off roading.

To the best of my knowledge, not a common problem. Why not just call the manufacturer's customer support and talk with them? They might just send you a new one.
I am using a P3 now so can't comment directly on the P2. My last controller from a different manufacturer started locking up the first couple of stops each day for reasons unknown, but I had a lot of years on it, so got the P3.
when I sold the Dodge.. I removed the P3. for now its sitting in its box.
as for the Prodigy P2 .... call the Company.. may get a new one.
if you can not TRUST the brake controller.. it is worthless. . and possibly dangerous. my opinion
I had a P3 in my F150. My 250 has the integrated brake controller, so the P3 is in it's box sitting in the closet. I might get around to selling it before the P4 comes out.
I've got Rancho 9000XL's. I chose them over the Bilsteins because of the larger diameter tubes and the adjustability. I chose a setting I like and left it there.
Used brake controllers are pretty common I find, and I wouldn't hesitate to buy one. But the correct pigtail to plug into the port on your truck and don't hack up the wiring, easy stuff. I know folks who have even found that they can just jam the controller into an ashtray or something for temporary usage.
High-end ones seem to work more smoothly. i had an el-cheapo once, and it was very jerky, and very tough to adjust. The P2 I had after that was much better.
Nothing has been as easy at the Ford one I had in my last F150 though. That thing was great.
