This is my posting, where are these things prone to cracking? I haven't found cracks in them, but may be overlooking them. I had major drivetrain failure and have no more money to put it back on the road.
How did your bellhousing crack? What caused that?

U Joint came apart at 75+mph. Ripped the transmission to pieces and cracked the back of the engine up pretty good. Previous owner installed a 5.4L transmission in it and didn't change the tailshaft housing, he changed the slip yoke and spaced the u joint over with washers. I never feel a vibration until it was waaayyy too late.

Dang. Must have been a scary ride. Any pics of the engine damage?

Oddly enough, it wasn't too bad, I actually thought I lost a tire at first. What was scary was to see that the fuel lines cut in half by the flailing driveshaft.
I haven't pulled the engine yet, but check out the transmission..
PS - sorry for the size of the pictures, I'm on my iPad and can't resize them with what I have on here.
looks like a oopsie doopsie. i got a hole in side of a trans and tcase ripped in half on one of the fords i bought. i think the chain failed in case causing it to rip apart and then driveshaft beating side of trans to death.
I never said that they were prone to cracking. I just mentioned that because they are fiberglass and over time some of them do get damaged by various means. I would pass on buying any with prior damage. I would grab a good solid set just to put away for any future issues with mine.
That transmission of yours is broken.
