It ran the Baja 1000, I'm not worried about longevity . I have never heard of a blown motor or replacement motor before. If there are, it is rare compared to the other motors out there. The SD 6.2 is the most reliable truck on the road today. My local dealer sells 6.2's and next see's those buyers at 100k for a tune-up service.
A great testament to the reliability of this engine is in this thread topic. Don't really see anyone with any major issues being posted. Most complaint I've seen is the cold start ticking, which is more of a personal annoyance than anything else.
I believe in this day and age with proper PM and not beating the crap out of them like a teenager these truck engine can easily go 250-300K miles. Of course there will be the wear and tear items that will need to be seen to along the way.
Mine is a fleet-maintained but hard-used drill-field work truck. It will soon hit 180,000 miles. Other than a shudder under acceleration which I cannot figure out, it runs quite well.
I think they got some things right on the 6.2 and am happy I got one over the 5.4.
Little or nothing ever seems to go wrong with them , kinda boring but in a good way! Got 75,000 on mine most of that towing a fifth wheel only thing it sees dealer for is oil changes
