Should I or should I not?

I have a current issue with the FICM in my 2005 6.0 SD. It is reading 43 at startup and then once truck reaches operating temp it is 47.5 - 48.5

Now for the question....I need to make a 500 mile run this weekend to pick up an enclosed trailer. Is it going to do more damage to FICM if I run it, or should I cancel the run until I get the new FICM installed. Sure don't want to ruin an injector!

What do you guys think?

Presuming your charging system is now good (as in, you pulled the alternator and had it bench tested and also tested the batteries), I'd be fine making that trip from what you've described.

To decrease risk to things, just plug the truck in for three hours prior to ignition if there is anyway at all to do that and let the truck warm up to 130 degree oil before driving it.

We can always send you a replacement FICM, pre-programmed and ready to go for arrival prior to the weekend as well if you'd didn't want to have to be worried about it.

Why not replace it before you leave? Plenty of time to do so.

Thanks for the reply Ed...I will be getting a new FICM next week. The batteries were bad and were replaced about two months ago and will check them along with alternator when I get home...

Sammy...yes I could replace it before the weekend IF I was home....Thanks!

Replacing a FICM just necessitates a plier, an 8mm socket, a 10mm socket, and a corresponding ratchet (typically 1/4" drive).

You sure we can't ship a FICM to wherever you are now to save you a stressful drive?

I would opt for a new one. Very easy to replace, with minimal tools, as stated, once you get to the truck. It would suck to be broke down somewhere with the trailer. I've been there.

I vote you should not make the trip without replacing it "FICMrepair" makes a valid argument

Just don't turn the truck off as much as you can and you'll be fine. Two more cold starts on the FICM won't be significantly worse than what's already happened to it. Fill it while it's running.

I would rather make the trip with the old one and take my time testing the charging system before I waste the warranty on the new FICM with a bad alternator. Ed can't warranty a failure if your alternator is the root issue.

This is true...of course, we could always send out a replacement alternator with the FICM, too...
